Wow! I just came across your site today by accident, having Google'd myself just for the fun of it. And then to find a great review of a fiction hypertext piece I did four years ago at university! I fished around a bit on the site and was very impressed with the excellent design and content. There really isn't a forum for hypertext literature today, so I was glad to see a sharp-looking site that publishes and reviews this kind of work. Thanks!

Thank you very much for publishing my story 'Yellow Dreams' in dotlit. The site looks great and the editing was spot on.

  Geoffrey Gates (Author, dotlit 4.1)

I just came across your website and began reading one of the publications. I have to congratulate Gregory Paul Mineeff for writing such a wonderful piece on Italy. I too had similar experiences when I travelled to Rome, and the imagery he used to detail his emotions brought many memories to the surface. A wonderful read.

  Katie Hurley

I am so excited! I just realized I've never been published outside the US. Wow, Australia! Thanks.

Cheryl Burket (Author, dotlit 4.1), San Francisco

Thank you for accepting the piece - it was certainly worth the wait. And it's fantastic to know that you're continuing to publish. Best wishes.

The hypertexts look fantastic, as does the whole of dotlit.

Hi, my name is Gregory Paul Mineeff and I just want to say thank you for publishing my work in dotlit. It is a great opportunity to be showcased in such a wonderful publication. I am a Graduate from the University of Wollongong in English Literature and live in Port Kembla, near Wollongong in NSW. Thanks again for the opportunity.

Gregory Paul Mineeff (Author, dotlit 4.1)

Congratulations on the latest dotlit. Some good stuff there and a lot of hard work on the editors' part of course. Many thanks, too, for publishing my piece.

  Helen Yeates (Author, dotlit 4.1)

I was perusing the dotlit site today, reading the truly impressive hypertexts ... Just a quick note to say thank you very much.

I want to send a belated thank you and congratulate you on the excellent website and your editing of my story 'After Dreaming'.

I am from Brisbane, living in New York. I enjoy your magazine a great deal and particularly appreciate the grey screen which makes it easy to read online. Congratulations and best wishes.

  Christine Conte

I've just discovered your site (from a google search for online journals in Australia). I read 'I'll Make This Knife Talk' by Felix Cheong from your November 2002 issue. I think it's an extraordinary, exhilarating poem and I congratulate you and him on it. I'll definitely be revisiting your site on a regular basis.

  David Neustein (aspiring poet, Sydney)

I've had a chance to have a look at November's dotlit. Many thanks for putting me up in dotlit. It's my first on-line short story, though I've had a few poems in electronic journals, so it's a new experience - and a nice one. The format and look is great. Good luck with it again next year.

  Jane Downing (Author, dotlit 3.2)

I've been taking some time over the last week or so to browse some of the work on the dotlit site, and I have to say I've been really impressed with what I've come across.

  Jason Murdoch

Thank you for the beautiful review. It means a great deal to me to have the words in "The Queen of Peace Room" heard and then understood. Thank you for that.

  Magie Dominic

I enjoyed my contribution to dotlit.

Haven't looked in on the latest issue yet, but look forward to doing so. Congratulations on getting it all together!

Responses to the fourth issue of dotlit:

Hello-

I'd just like to thank dotlit for publishing my poem "Don't Go." It's always wonderful to see a treasured work in print for all to see and this is my first experience of being published 'online!' Thanks again

  Charlotte Durut (Author, dotlit 2.2)

I'd like to congratulate you on the online publication - I enjoy it very much. The inclusion of Bronwyn Lea's work last issue led me to buy Flight Animals, and I thought it was a stunning book of poetry.

  Annie Condon

I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the opportunity to build my short story portfolio. Without snowflakes at dotlit and dots at other e-zines I doubt that any publisher would have taken risks with my story.

I'm delighted to tell you that Cold River, my book, is now available in the below electronic versions. From July 2002, Cold River will bookmark and observe the 22nd anniversary of a daring escape across the Iron Curtain. Jozef's only regret is not finishing this story earlier.

'This book is like having an old itch finally scratched.'

I am a musician and writer and have been reading (and enjoying) your journal.

I am interested in writing that handles the surfaces of experience in an innovative way. These can be the surfaces of individual experience, the surfaces of cultural experience or the surfaces of language itself. Or surfaces of flower itself in the context of Lea's ideas.

Your journal brings together work in a powerful format. Pieces that interact interestingly when placed side by side. Not work of one particular school to the exclusion of another but always with an eye/ear/heart toward challenging work.

Bronwyn Lea's poetry is a must read for one and all of us.

As always, commission accomplished with a gusto!

Once again, thank you for contributing to my, no matter how metaphorical, third birth ...

You have created a truly wonderful web site. Thank you.

Just found your website. It's the first time I've ever wanted a bigger monitor. I wanted to see around the edges and over the top of every story, every page I opened. Brilliant!

Responses to the second issue of dotlit:

Dear Editors,
I was surprised, though pleased, to discover that the Literature Fund recognises the electronic publication (via dotlit) of my CIRCUS book of poems as being equivalent to a print publication of the same for the purposes of grant applications. It makes sense, especially for the publication of poetry where there is so little being published by major publishers. Electronic publication of poetry may be one way in which the form survives, in Australia at least, into the future. Though one always hopes that major print publishers will once again embrace poetry as a significant and culturally valuable artform.

Having used your Website as an important source of information and inspiration while writing my honours thesis 'The nomad's tent: contemporary creative nonfiction essays in Australia', I wanted to compliment you on dotlit's quality — it is a pleasure to read.

Just mailing to say well done about how dotlit is progressing. It's very exciting and must reflect so well on all the work you've done in nurturing it so far.

Responses to the first issue of dotlit:

After nearly a decade lecturing in Creative Writing at QUT, wouldn't you just know that I find Philip and Donna are producing student stories on dotlit the minute I leave. Arrrgh!!! That's the way it falls, I guess. Anyway, as one writer to another, heartiest congratulations to all who have contributed to your amazing e-zine and I hope that you go on to even greater greatness. Well .... You know what I mean!! Congrats.

Gary Crew (Reinventing himself at the University of the Sunshine Coast)

As Head of the School of Media and Journalism I congratulate the editors and student team from the Creative Writing Section who have created this exciting new electronic publication. It is another example of the commitment of the Creative Writing Discipline and the School to both develop and support local writing excellence, and to expand its national and international links. I look forward to further issues and wish dotlit every success.
Stuart Cunningham (Head, School of Media and Journalism, QUT)

I just took a look at the draft version of your new on-line journal, dotlit. How very impressive, both from a literary and a graphic point-of-view. The writing is compelling and expressive, without a loss of clarity. The design is engaging and very user friendly. Your students and colleagues (and you!) deserve a lot of credit. Congratulations.
Lee Gutkind (Editor, Creative Nonfiction, USA)

I have been enjoying dotlit enormously. Congratulations to you and all who have made it possible. May there be many more issues!
Brian Johns (Adjunct Professor, School of Media and Journalism, QUT)

The first edition of dotlit is a truly wonderful achievement both in terms of content and production values. I'm particularly pleased to note your commitment to developing hypertext and multi-media work as the characteristics of the Net can be (and are being) used creatively to forge new kinds of narrative experience. I hope to watch and read this space in a variety of exciting ways in future!
Guy Redden (General Editor, M/C Reviews)

That's a groovy looking magazine you have there. Congratulations!
Antoni Jach (The Weekly Card Game, The Layers of the City)

To the coordinators and writers of dotlit
We would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations on the production of dotlit.
This project is a wonderful avenue to showcase creative writing talent and provide professional development opportunities to young and emerging writers.
Organisations such as the Queensland Writers Centre appreciate the positive impact such programs have in fostering young writers prior to publication. These programs provide motivation and encouragement for emerging writers and as such we believe that this is an extremely worthwhile project. We wish you every success.

Hilary Beaton (Executive Director, Queensland Writers Centre)

I just wanted to say congratulations on the launch of dotlit. It was, as said, 'very exciting'. I am so excited that this sort of avenue is opening up for creative writing! So, congratulations to both you and Philip on a great job done, and best wishes for the future. Long live literature!
